How to Set Up a Proxy in SocksDroid

Step 1: Get Your IPcook Proxy Details

First, log into your IPcook dashboard and set up your SocksDroid proxy.

Pick the proxy type you need. Residential, ISP, and Datacenter plans are all supported. For this tutorial, we'll use a residential proxy. Select the target location you want, choose SOCKS5 as the protocol, and finish the setup.

Once that's done, copy these four values. You'll paste them into SocksDroid:

Server (the Proxy hostname or IP address)
Proxy Port
Proxy username
Proxy password

Step 2: Download and Install SocksDroid on Android

Note that SocksDroid isn't available on the Google Play Store now. Download it from a trusted source, such as the official GitHub release page or the IzzyOnDroid F-Droid repository.

Once installed, open the app.

Step 3: Enter the Server IP and Port

On the SocksDroid main screen, go to the Connection section. Tap Server IP and enter your proxy hostname, such as geo.ipcook.com. Then tap Server Port and enter the matching port number.

Scroll down to the Authentication section and enable Username & Password Authentication.

Step 5: Start the SocksDroid Connection

After entering the details, tap the switch in the top-right corner to turn SocksDroid on.

How to Check If SocksDroid Is Working

Open a browser on your Android device and visit an IP lookup site such as ipinfo.io or whatismyip.com.

If the IP address, country, and ISP shown match your IPcook proxy location, everything is working correctly. If not, SocksDroid isn't routing traffic yet, and you'll need to revisit the setup.

Why Is My SocksDroid Not Working?

If your IP hasn't changed or the connection won't establish, work through these common causes one by one.

Wrong Server or Port

Even a single missing digit in the host or port field will break the connection. Copy the values again and make sure the server and port match the proxy details you generated.

Protocol Set to the Wrong Type

If your host, port, username, and password all look correct but the connection still won't establish, check SocksDroid's Proxy Type dropdown. It's easy to leave it on the default setting instead of switching it to SOCKS5. Also confirm you generated a SOCKS5 proxy. SocksDroid only works with SOCKS5, so if either side is set to HTTP or anything else, the connection will fail.

Authentication Issues

First, make sure the Authentication switch inside SocksDroid is turned on. If it's off, the app never sends your credentials, and the proxy server rejects the connection. Once the switch is on, double-check your username and password.

Proxy Plan Out of Traffic or Expired

Check your IPcook dashboard to make sure your proxy plan is still active and has enough available traffic or validity period left. An expired or depleted plan will stop authenticating even if every other setting is correct.

VPN Permission Was Denied

If you tapped Cancel instead of Allow on the Android VPN permission prompt, SocksDroid can't create its tunnel. Toggle the connection off and back on to trigger the prompt again.

One App Still Shows Your Old IP

Some apps hold onto old network sessions, use private DNS, or cache connection data from before SocksDroid was turned on. If only one app still shows your original IP while everything else works fine, force-close that app, clear its cache if needed, and test again.
